Good Morning my sweet lil muffin pop!
How are you? Is it cold and snowy where you are? Rainy and cloudy? Are you gearing up for the holidays? I’ve been desperately craving to slow down and sink into the holiday season and yet I feel like I’m in the middle of a mad dash to get everything done. Can you relate?
The holiday season can be wonderful time and can also be a triggering time. To-do lists, hosting duties, buying gifts, writing cards, wrapping gifts, and ornamenting ourselves just like tress can be down-right exhausting.
With all of that in mind, I want to share the gift of a self-care exercise that you can use during the holidays and all year round.
It’s called the “Oh, Sweetheart” exercise.
When you notice yourself feeling stressed, sad, triggered, uncomfortable, overwhelmed, etc. all you have to do is say to yourself, “Oh Sweetheart, (insert something kind, tender and loving here).”
I’ve shared a few personal examples below for you to use for reference.
When I can’t sleep and feel on edge, I say, “Oh Sweetheart, it’s okay. You deserve to rest and just laying here is resting. You can relax now.”
When I eat past the point of full and notice how much I judge myself, I say, “Oh Sweetheart, you are safe. What would make you feel cozy and protected?”
When I make a mistake at work or miss out on a business deal, I say, “Oh Sweetheart, you are talented. You got this job for a reason and you are a pro.”
When I feel lonely, I say, “Oh Sweetheart, you are worth loving. You are never really alone when you realize how much you love yourself.”
You get the point!
I want to challenge you find a moment today to practice the “Oh, Sweetheart” exercise and notice how you feel.
You are worth loving and being cared for. You deserve to feel safe, cozy, and experience tenderness. One of the best things about life is that we can create safety, tenderness, and loveliness for ourselves.
